When Group Members Strive For Agreement

One of the prerequisites for successful teamwork is the ability of team members to make decisions and solve problems as a group. One of the most effective decision-making processes is consensus building. Multi-voting can reduce a list of a large number of items to a manageable number of items. At the beginning of the process, each member receives a number of votes representing no more than half or a third of the total number of items listed. Members vote for the points they perceive to be the best placed on the list, but can only vote once per point. Articles that receive votes from half or more of the group are circled. The process repeats itself, with members issuing only limited voices for the best remaining circled elements. How teams work. Task and maintenance needs  task activities – every activity a team member performs and contributes to the group`s performance objective.  There are steps that groups can take to minimize this problem. First, leaders can give group members the opportunity to express their own ideas or argue against ideas that have already been proposed. Group consensus can enable groups to make decisions, do tasks and carry out projects quickly and efficiently – but even the most harmonious groups can benefit from some challenges. Nominal group technique is a two-part process that offers a more structured approach than brainstorming or multi-vote.
